Branches & products
Branches & Products groups job profitability by branch and by product/service. Admins can add products/services and assign those two dimensions to jobs, but changing a classification doesn't change the source revenue, cost, payments, or contract value.
Branches & Products is a management view, not a new transaction. A job is given a branch and a product/service so its revenue and costs land in the right group. If a classification is wrong, change the job's assignment—the transaction numbers stay the same, only the report group changes.
Before you start
Have this ready
- Make sure the Operations dimensions feature is turned on.
- Agree on the definitions of branches and products/services so there are no duplicate names.
- Check active and historical jobs that don't have a classification yet.
- Decide who may change report classifications.
Done when
- Every important job is linked to the right branch and product/service.
- New product/service names don't duplicate existing terms.
- Profit per dimension can be compared without being treated as a new journal.
- Classification mistakes are fixed through Assign or the No branch/product option.
Understand the dimensions and grouped numbers
| Part | Function | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Branch | Groups jobs by organizational unit/location | Only active branches can be chosen |
| Product/Service | Groups the type of service or result that's sold | New names must be consistent; this screen doesn't offer delete/deactivate |
| Assign job | Assigns a branch and product/service to a single job | Can be cleared again |
| Profit overview | Adds up revenue, cost, profit, and margin per dimension | Numbers come from jobs, not from input on this screen |
| Top 6 | Shows the groups with the highest profit | Not all the data if there are more than six groups |
| Export | Downloads the dimension table that's visible | Check the filters and any sensitive data |
Classify jobs and read the results
- 1
Review existing names
Search for variations of branch and product names before adding a new option.
Result: The risk of duplicate categories goes down.To cancel / undo: Nothing changes until Save. - 2
Add a product or service
Enter the name the company has agreed on, then Save.
Result: The active option is available for assigning to jobs.To cancel / undo: Choose Cancel before Save. Once saved, this screen doesn't yet offer delete/deactivate; contact the admin if the name is wrong. - 3
Choose Assign on a job
Check the job name, then choose the right branch and product/service.
Result: The job is ready to be included in the two-dimension aggregation. To cancel / undo: Close the dialog before Save to keep the old classification. - 4
Save the classification
Confirm both choices. Use No branch or No product when the classification really doesn't apply.
Result: The job's profit moves to the chosen dimension group. To cancel / undo: Open Assign again and restore the choice or clear it. The source transactions stay the same. - 5
Compare groups
Read revenue, cost, profit, margin, and the number of jobs per branch/product. Remember the top card only shows the top groups.
Result: Performance across units or service lines can be analyzed. If something goes wrong: If dimension numbers don't match the total, check for unclassified jobs and groups outside the top 6. - 6
Export for review
Make sure the latest classification is saved, then export the table.
Result: A comparison file is available for the meeting. To cancel / undo: Delete the local file if it's wrong; no Vasco data changes.
Classification states
| Condition | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| No branch | The job hasn't been, or doesn't need to be, grouped into a branch | Assign it if it should have a branch |
| No product | The job hasn't been, or doesn't need to be, grouped into a product/service | Assign the right option |
| Active branch/product | Can be chosen for a job | Use a standard name |
| Negative-profit group | Aggregate costs exceed the group's revenue | Open the underlying jobs and transaction sources |
| Doesn't appear in the top 6 | Profit isn't one of the top six | Use the full table or export |
Undo, correct, or delete safely
| Situation | The right action | What still happens |
|---|---|---|
| The Assign dialog wasn't saved | Choose Cancel | The old classification stays |
| A wrong classification was saved | Assign again or choose No branch/product | Revenue and source costs don't change |
| The wrong product/service was created | Don't use it, and contact your Admin | The current screen doesn't offer delete/deactivate |
| Wrong export | Delete the local file and try again | No app data changed |
Don't invent an undo
If the screen doesn't offer an undo, edit, or delete button after a transaction is saved, this documentation does not assume the action can be reversed. Note the reference, stop any follow-up actions, then ask for a correction through the main admin or Vasco support.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Possible causes | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Feature not available | Dimensions haven't been migrated | Ask your Admin to enable the required database version |
| Branch/product doesn't appear | Inactive or not created yet | Check the master data and active status |
| Total per dimension is too low | Some jobs have no classification | Search for No branch/product and complete them |
| Strange group margin | One job has a wrong source transaction | Open the underlying jobs and trace the Profit |
| Duplicate names | A category was created with a different spelling | Stop using the duplicate and ask your Admin to consolidate |
Questions and answers
Does changing the branch move money?
No. The change only classifies the job for reports.
Can one job have two products?
This screen assigns one product/service to one job. Split the job if your analysis really needs separate economic units.
How do I remove a classification?
Open Assign, then choose No branch or No product.
Why are only six groups shown?
The summary cards show the six groups with the highest profit. Use the table/export for the full data.
Can a wrong product be deleted?
The current screen doesn't offer that action. Don't use the wrong choice, and ask your Admin to handle it.
